LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday restrained the government from taking any illegal action against Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, who had approached the court fearing possible arrest on account of a UN delegation arriving this week.
Justice Aminuddin Khan issued the stay order at the first hearing of Mr Saeed’s petition, challenging his possible arrest at the behest of United States and India.
Advocate A.K. Dogar appeared on behalf of Mr Saeed and argued that a delegation of the United Nations was arriving in the country on Jan 26 and the government of Pakistan intended to take action against his client ‘to please the American and Indian lobby’. The court directed the Ministry of Interior and Punjab home department to file written replies to the petition by March 7.
