This year, the first rule I made when making this list was that I would only include one actor one time. I have never strung to that limitation in the past, judging each performance individually, but this has been an astonishing year for a couple of actors - the two men topping this list - and I could easily make a top five or six actors of the year list just by throwing their work together.
2017 has been a particularly grand year for those two, and it has also been a solid year for independent cinema, with several actors from smaller films now gaining greater footholds and more visibility. I have so far discussed the best Hindi films of the year, the worst Hindi films of the year, the biggest star of the year, and the best actresses of the year.
